Urgent Care

What is Urgent Care?

Pet urgent care is a type of veterinary service that focuses on treating non-life-threatening conditions that need attention quickly but aren't severe enough to be emergencies. It's similar to human urgent care. Pet owners can bring their animals to urgent care if they notice something is wrong but don’t think it requires immediate emergency intervention. Common issues treated in pet urgent care include minor cuts or wounds, ear infections, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, and lameness (limping). These symptoms are uncomfortable for your pet but can usually wait a few hours or until your regular vet’s office is open.

What is Emergency Care?

Pet emergency care is designed for life-threatening situations that require immediate treatment to save your pet’s life. If your pet is seriously injured or experiencing severe symptoms, you should seek emergency care immediately. Symptoms that need emergency care include difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, seizures, inability to stand, collapse, and poisoning. In these cases, every minute counts, and taking your pet to an emergency vet can make a big difference in their survival and recovery.

When to Choose Urgent vs. Emergency Care

It’s important to know the difference between urgent and emergency care so you can make the best decision for your pet. If your pet’s condition isn’t critical but needs attention soon, urgent care may be a good option. However, if your pet’s symptoms are severe, life-threatening, or worsening rapidly, it’s best to visit an emergency clinic right away. If you’re unsure, you can always call a veterinarian for advice on whether urgent or emergency care is needed.
